A Perfect Spring Event at Stonehurst Cedar Creek: Wine, Food, and Good Vibes
On September 21st, we had the pleasure of catering a beautiful long lunch at the stunning Stonehurst Cedar Creek in Wollombi. The weather was perfectly warm, sunny, and full of those signature spring vibes that made the event feel even more special. With 80 guests gathered among the vineyards and rolling hills, the day was filled with great conversations, laughter, and of course, delicious food and wine.
Our team had an incredible time preparing a 4-course plated menu with perfectly matched wines, all served in the most picturesque setting. Stonehurst Cedar Creek’s natural beauty provided the ideal backdrop for this relaxed and intimate gathering. The combination of fresh air, fantastic food, and great company created an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
The Menu & Wine Pairings
We started the event with two canapés that showcased seasonal flavours:
Canapé 1: Caramelised Onion & Beetroot Tartlet, ‘Binnorie’ feta, pesto & smoked hazelnuts
Canapé 2: Beef Fillet Tataki, puffed sesame crisp, chilli jam, wakame & togarashi
These bites were perfectly paired with the 2022 Methode Traditionnelle (sparkling brut), which brought out notes of citrus, apple, and pear with a light biscuit finish.
For the plated courses, we curated dishes to pair beautifully with Stonehurst's handpicked wines:
Starter: Daintree Barramundi with grilled asparagus, perino tomato, marinated olive & sunflower seeds
Paired with: 2022 Semillon (lime, grapefruit, green melon) and 2014 Semillon (lime, toasted honey)
Entrée: Roasted Chicken with charred leek, creamed corn, pickled onions & artichoke crisps
Paired with: 2022 Chardonnay (white peach, hazelnut, vanilla) and 2023 Rosé (summer berries, cherry, savoury spice)
Main Course: Moorish Spiced Beef with potato & parmesan gratin, mustard beans, jus & kale crisps
Paired with: 2014 Chambourcin (raspberry, blackcurrant, mixed spice) and 2023 Shiraz (plum, dark chocolate, black pepper)
Dessert: Spring Berry & Vanilla Bean Cheesecake with caramelised apple, white chocolate & toasted granola
Paired with: 2010 Semillon (citrus, honeycomb, marmalade)
The food was crafted to highlight local produce, while each wine was chosen to enhance the flavours of every dish. It’s events like these that remind us why we love what we do—creating exceptional dining experiences in breathtaking locations.
A Day to Remember
The relaxed atmosphere and open-air setting made it feel like a true celebration of food, wine, and the beginning of spring. It was a joy to see our team work together, preparing and serving up the dishes with precision and care. As always, one of the best parts of our job is the variety we experience, one day we’re at a long lunch in the Hunter Valley, and the next, we’re off to cater a wedding in the Blue Mountains!
